OK, I take it you are doing a year 10 or 11 assignment at one of the Secondary Schools, when is it due for assesment, and how much of the above do you really need, regarding the Statement of intenet ? for instance, half a page ofwritten notes or a page for instance.
If you have got a couple of weeks, which I assume you have until the end of term 3, I'll sort something out for you.
I was a Tech School teacher for25 years, teaching Woodwork and Graphics, also the 4 grades of Carpentry and Joinery apprentices.
Send me a PM sometime, and I will send up some sketches foe design and joints etc.
Kind Regards.
Ron.

WW, could be a good idea to start by looking at what is around in the way of timber P/T holders to see what's gone before you. See how they're made, what timber was used, what the finish looks like, what joints/fasteners were used, etc.
For a free drawing prog, Google Sketchup would be the ducks guts for you. Free, easy to learn, great pics.
Most people here would be willing to help you, but would like to see some effort & thought on your part first. Eg, " this one at Ikea is a blond looking wood, and has a shiny finish. Could it be pine, and is the finish glossy to make it easy to clean? Blah, blah, hope you get the idea.
Cheers.................Sean

Watto,
Rather than doing your assignment, here's a few tips
The statement of intent commences with: "I intend to ... ... ..." It does not give a solution but outlines the problem.
Motivation is the reason why it's necessary for you to do it.
Limitations are things you can not use or can not do. Existing skill could be a limitation that is valid in some situations.\
Possibilities: - - - ask your teacher. - - -
As far as what joints to use, google 'paper towel holder' or 'kitchen towel holder' or 'paper towel dispenser' or 'kitchen towel tidy' or 'kitchen towel dispenser.'
I'm sure that you'll find suitable designs.
Now, look at each design and de-construct it - what joints did they use and why do you think that they used it.
Do the same thing for finishes. Why is an oil finish not the best for a wet area, why is wax used as a finish, etc...
Do the same thing for materials. If it's got to be timber, what sorts have you got available, what colour does it need to be, etc...
Style is important. I'd suggest that a rococo (look it up) styled object would be out of place in a modern setting. But it may be better suited to a French Provincial Kitchen.
As far as your drawing programme, I direct my students to www.nhcad.com and go to TurboCAD on the free CAD links.
Having said this, design sketches are meant to be organic and freehand/freeform until you get the idea right.
Best regards,
eddie

All this for a towel holder!!!!!
It was a lot easier when I was a lad, all we had to do was build it from a set drawing and then present it to mum.
"look what I made for you mum". and then wait for the praise.
