Installing Ball Bearing Full extension runners- Help!!
HI there,
I purchased a coule of sets of hettich full extension ball bearing runners side mount. I had this idea that I wanted a couple of pull out shelves under my bench.
I have trouble sawing a piece of wood straight so please any advice will be appreciated but needs to be a little detailed for me to understand.
So... the problem - After putting the slides in and creating a basic drawer the slide works up to the point of full etxenion and then the track that is attached to the side of the drawer falls out/ drops off/ from the runner mehanism. I gather I do not have something cut correct / square / something.
I tried to the best to atach the main boldy of the runner to the side wall of the bench - used a level to make sure it was level in terms of the run and also both sides were on the same plane/ height to each other.
I then attached the runner that slides out of the main body to the side panel of the drawer/shelf. I put a back and front on the 2 sides and then a bottom so that it was a basic drawer.
I placed the drawer slides back into the main runner emchanism and it runs, BUT when being pulled to full extension 1 side of the runner falls out of the main body track.
How to fix this? What have I got wrong.
I had hoped to find instructions how to fit drawer runners of this type on Hettichs site but could not see anything or anywhere else for that matter.
Your help would be most apreciated.

How much side clearance did you leave for the slides?
It should be 1/2"(12.7mm)each side and yes the carcass/sides and draw on which they are mounted to must be square and parallel to each other.....................................................................

Sounds like you're not fully driving the drawer slides back into the main runner mechanism, if they're the ones I'm thinking they are, you need to check that it locks itself onto the main runner, you should feel and hear it.

If I am understanding what you are describing the drawer shell is narrower at the back than the front or the carcass is not the same dimension across the front or back, or possibly a combination of both. Instead of using a level to install it I use a spacer from the floor of the carcass to get the slides referenced to that. There was a really good video showing this on the FWW site but I can't find it now. It was building a complete workshop cabinet using roller slides for the drawers.
On re-reading the post are you saying the drawer is pulling straight out from the slides? In other words nothing is stopping it from being pulled right off the slide?CHRIS

I haven't used the particular tracks you have, but by any chance have you swapped the left and right hand sections anywhere during fitting. The fact that the drawer drops out around the point of full extension suggests that the tracks might have been swapped and inverted.
Then again as I said in intro, I haven't used that series of track so could be wrong.

THnalks to all for your support.
I believe the problem may be the end of the track that is fitted to the wall of the frame/ cabinet needed to be blocked out a bit - I have placed a thin strip of timber behind the track and now when the track fully extends the drawer component that is attached to the drawer does not fall / drop out from the inner rail that slides fro the part mounted to the cabinet wall.
This sounds confusing doesn't it.
Sorry bout that.
So it seeeems OK for now.
I will try and get the manufacturer to provide some newbie type proedures for fitting from scratch as I would like to add a coulle more but I have been a little bit on my own with this problem to date.
Cheers everyone.
