    Default joinery question

    hey all,

my partner is now 6 weeks away from dropping our first bub and i thought it'd be great to build her a rocking chair, a tough project from what ive heard and seen, but worth a shot. please excuse the "google sketchup" drawing but it's the quickest way for me to ask the question.

As you can see in the first pic there's the general shape of the rocker, i really enjoy furniture with beautiful sweeping curves and have tried to design something along those lines, although the drawing seems fairly out of proportion. Each joint conecting to the rocker section itself is going to be under a fair bit of pressure once theres someone in the seat. you will notice a red arrow with a red question mark next to it, here is the first problem.

as you can see in the second pic (appologies again, horrible drawing) there is the 2 questions, how should i join the 2 leg sections at the end and once they're done, how should i connect it to the rocker section?

my idea was to attemp the z shaped seat idea and join it with splines, then mortice and tennon the leg section to the rocker. This will be a fairly difficult exrecise, although i'm more than willing to give it a shot. does anyone have a quicker way of doing it, or a better way?

I can't wait to give this project a shot, i really love rocking chairs and have wanted one for ages. I've been drooling over the maloof rockers for quite a while... one powerball..

    thanks in advance,

    spencer.

    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
