Anyone tried to get the newer labels off bottles/containers lately?
I used to just soak them off but the manufacturers appear to be getting smarter with their glue choices.
Have tried water, soapy hot water, metho, shellite, heat gun - even slight heat appears to be absolutely a no no on plastic containers, scraper - some success but very slow and messy.
I would like to replace all of my glass bottles of screws/biscuits/nails etc with clear plastic containers if this is possible - if I can't get enough clear plastics then I will continue with glass - but there is still the label removal hassle.
Any ideas which work for you?
Thanks,
Bob

Have you tried mineral turps? I used it yesterday with a blunt scraper so that it didn't scratch the plastic too much!
Have a nice day - Cheers

Have you tried Eucalyptus oil?
Removes most label glues but may cloud some types of hard plastic containers. Test first on a small area.
Growing old is much better than the alternative!

Much better than gass jars, if you drop them they don't break.

I put them through the dishwasher then scrape the label off asap. They still come off in small pieces.
A good container to look for are the "SPC" fruit & beetroot containers. Sort of opaque plastic with a green screwtop lid. In 1kg & 1.2 kg sizes and are reasonably square.

I find that the labels come off the peanut butter jars in one piece if I fill the jar with hot water from the tap, (keeping the label dry) let the glue heat up and then peel it off. Any glue left on the jar comes off easily with WD40.

Acetone or SWMBO's nail polish remover will often remove the final dregs of glue usually without damaging the plastic.

Thanks all, I'll give the suggestions a go.
One of the main reasons for the change to plastic was the glass breakage issue - however the old glass Vegemite jar is still very hard to go past - yep, was and still is a Veggi kid.

Bob

Save youself all the trouble and weight gain from eatingbthe contents.
Go to a glass packaging company such as COSPAC or PASDNE and ask for plastic honey jars ( among other sizes )
They will have minimums last time I baught about $90 worth which is a big box and I'm still getting thru them.

Most powertools have sharp teeth.
People are made of meat.
Abrasives can be just as dangerous as a blade.....and 10 times more painfull.
