Matchbox VAROOM

This is a sight that will light up the faces of Formula One fans - a fullscale model of a championshipwinning McLaren Mercedes made out of 956,000 matches.
Behind the wheel is Michael Arndt, who spent six and a half years and £4,500 building the car in his aunt's kitchen. He also used 1,686 tubes of glue.
The 40-year-old civil servant calculated the true size of the Mercedes MP 4/14 using a 1:18 model of the car driven by Mika Hakkinen in the 1999 season.

Top gear: Micheal Arndt sits behind the wheel of his car made completely out of matches.
Each match had its head removed and was then cut to precision length using a fine blade and a guide rule.
This allowed Mr Arndt, from Hanover, Germany, to recreate the design in incredible detail - from the wheel suspension to adjustable mirrors.
The model can be split into 45 pieces for easy transport to matchstick conventions.
Mr Arndt, whose previous matchstick creations have included a train and his local city hall, said: "The car took a long time to build but I never lost patience.
"I have built it ten layers thick in places so it is strong enough to sit in."

That guy is a complete idiot...should be more of it!!
peterThe other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

Maybe his next project could be a matchstick shed? Or he's waiting for his aunt to say"OK YOU CAN HAVE A SHED".

I would just like to point out a few things....
1. He built it in his Aunt's kitchen....what did his Aunt do for food over the 6.5 years he took to build the car? Obviously, the £4,500 does not include any of the costs of eating out.
2. "The 40-year-old civil servant"...."in his aunt's kitchen"...this is not a small project by any stretch of the imagination and most large projects undertaken by an individual is done so in a place nice and handy....therefore, this 40 year old civil servant must live with his aunty, so to answer Jerryc's question, "Wonder what he does with the other hours of his life?", nothin'

Small thought just entered my mind. How does he plan to get it out of the kitchen?

Jerryc,
hate to point out the obvious, but it does say, "can be split into 45 pieces for easy transport to matchstick conventions"

I suppose the short answer to getting it out is -----"Carefully" or to make a really terrible pun "Carfully"
