MIK Adelaide in receivership
G'day, I called into MIK in Adelaide on Monday and it was closed, tried calling on the phone today, need some supplies for Easter work and no reply. That's funny thinks me so I called Sydney MIK to what was the problem only to be informede that they are in receivership. Don't waste a trip going there not even a sign on the door to say what was going on.

Oh bugger. What do we do now.
Is this just the adel store or all over.Don't force it, use a bigger hammer.
Timber is what you use. Wood is what you burn.

They are franchises as far as I know, so one fails doesn't drag down the others.

I thought that Adelaide was head office though?
In fact, take care, the Web Site (online ordering), all Emails etc were through head office Adelaide.

That leaves Leda as the only supplier of woodworking equipment in Adelaide, and they really only supply machinery.

Unless some one fills the gap we will have to buy all quality tools off the net sight unseen. I dislike this as I like to feel the quality before buying

That certainly explains the low stock levels and "couldn't care less" attitude on display every time I have called there over the last 1-2 years.

Best you hope for a Carbatec store to open there then! (And soon!)

All sorts of rumours going on. I heard MIK International was in receivership, leaving all the franchisees up the creek. Think we need some accurate facts here - anyone?

The only facts I can confirm is that Michael is the founder and owner of MIK International, Adelaide is the main office and the other stores are franchises. This implies that if Adelaide is in receivership, the franchisees are indeed "up the creek" as far as receiving value for their money, if they had paid any to get the franchise, but it might not mean anything as regards their ability to continue trading, either under the same name or under other names depending on the outcome.
Those most likely to be left "up the creek" are we, the Adelaide clients. It might be another example of Adelaide being too small a market to sustain certain trades.

my dealings with MIK Adelaide have been very positive. They have been very helpful
Last time I ordered over the net it was handled by MIK Sydney. Jason (in Syd) was also very pleasant and helpful.
I saw MIK as decent, multi site, competition to Carbatec
Now it might be left to the independents such as GPW, Carrolls and suchlike. (whom are very nice to deal with as well, having done so)
Competition is healthy and it is sad to see such a business on the rocks.

I don,t think any of us in Adelaide will be too suprised, most of us have seen in comming, we have seen all our woodturning/craft based busineses disapear over the years. I for one am suprised, they lasted this long, as with many companies franchising puts the final nail in the coffin

According to ASIC website the ABN number that is listed on MIK International catalogue ABN 56 007 759 444 (Valbella Pty Ltd) is listed as under External Administration.

I agree with Big Shed
That certainly explains the low stock levels and "couldn't care less" attitude on display every time I have called there over the last 1-2 years.
What's going to happen now and will we be left with the only option of buying quality tools off the net
