Yep I have bought 2 ebay cheapies and they work a treat $20ish bucks and give the same reading as my mates $200 unit. Oh I am still using the the first one I bought I just bought the second as backup but have never needed it. 4years ish old now and use it all the time.

Ok this one looks the same as the first one I got and am still using the name/number is different but I would say it is the same animal. Wood Moisture Meter - Great firewood quality tester - eBay, Other, Tools, Home. (end time 30-Sep-10 14:37:15 AEST)
And this one looks like the laast one I bought (because I thought the other cheapie was getting a bit older and may die and didn't want to get caught with out one.) Both give the same or very similar readings when comparied.

Realy they are not an over technical instument and most of the chieapies will prob do the job.
Ps I usually keep the battery out as they are easily bumped on and you end up with a flat battery.
