Money makers?
Money makers?
The question or responses I am looking for is what projects or products you are currently making or have in the past, seem to make the most money for you in regards to revenue (profit)coming into your pocket ? (tables and chairs, rockers, kitchen cabinets, bed room furniture, boxes, entertainment centers, and so on)I know some of you are more hobbyist and some are more on the professional side so there is a broad span of items we could be talking about, just looking to see what everybody is doing out there in regards to wood working and how they are doing and if they are making any money at it..

Money makers?
My job is basically going from site to site armed with a circular saw and a BIG hammer. When I relax in my shed, I do a lot of turning and build the occasional box or item of furniture to order with as much care and attention to detail as my meagre skills and budget allow.
On an hourly basis, my ability to bash bits of wood into approximate position earns far more than my painstakingly built works of love. It just doesn't feel right. Topsy-turvy world, ain't it?
Maybe I should put on airs, call myself an "artiste" and add a couple of zeros to my price tags?

Anything that can't be bought at IKEA - especially fitted stuff. Or sawing up IKEA stuff so it fits. As a handyman, at first you feel guilty taking money for such simple work. Then you realise heaps of people can't even hammer a nail into the wall...
You have minimal material outlays, the time investment is 100% calculable, the clientbase is huge and you get paid more per hour than when you build something unique and special.
Then you take some of the money you make to build something satasfying and give it away to a relative because no-one else can afford it anyway. Is it wrong to be in love with a sawbench?

G'Day Woodtec,
Market demands decide what I make, Bread and butter is made with jewel boxes and Small clocks (see clock section of the forum).
My true love is towards mechanical movement clocks, eg Long Case and mantle clocks BUT at the cost of good movements they are only made as comission jobs, However I am about to start two smaller Longcases to sell on spec. HOPEFULLY!!!
I want to make myself an 8 footer with tubular chimes but the mech is going to cost a few thousand and SWMBO has let me know that the only way I am going I am going to it is earn the money.
Also throw Decks, Pergolas and any other thing that will earn a dollar to buy the Bakky.
Catchya
