    Default Options other than estapol?

    G'day,

OK this might be a real dumb question, but I'm making some toys to sell for a charity. There will be two versions:

    • painted; and

    • when I can get enough timber of the likes of walnut etc. I'd like to make a better version with the wood as the hero. Estapoling is a choice and I'm sure much to the purists dismay. So, the waxes available, what's the go on them and how are they applied? And rather than simple butt joins I'd like to give dovetails a go and really let the timber sing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Waldo ..... not trying to put a dampener on our indevours but have you checked into the Australian Standards for toys?

It just seems that there are alot of hurdles that you need to get over to make toys for the Australian market if they are for sale, or even to give away.

As for the finish you need something that can be sucked, chewed and eaten.

    Good luck.

    Maple syrup maybe ?
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

    G'day,

I seem to have survived with the wooden toys my Dad (Gumby, it'd be worth a visit just to see the one's my Dad made) and Grandad made me when I was a little tyke.

On my stuff, there are no edges all have been rounded off and there are no pieces capable of disloging as to be a threat of being swallowed. No threat also of pieces breaking off to cause above etc.

But, fair comment on the likes of waxes and shellawax if they're full of nasties...

I could get caught up in all the red tape, heck I should have workcover but since I'm self-employed (nothing to do with woodie stuff, but my profession)
