Picture frame question
Hey,
I'm about to make a picture frame and have a few questions on the materials for the back of the frame.
If I were to use 25mm stock for the frame, what would be a recommended rebate and what material do I use for the back (not seen part)
For example if I routed a 6mm rebate, then put 3mm glass down first, then 3mm ply with some sort of adhesive to then stick the photos onto, then some clips to hold it in, would this be a normal way of doing it? Or is there a better way?
Also do I have to use glass? Or is there another material that can be used for frames with the same effect?
Cheers,
Andy

Hello Andy
You may be better to pause and do some reading on picture framing.
The photos should not touch the glass as they will simply adhere to it over time. You need a mat to separate.
Glueing the photos down is a no-no, they should be hinged to the backing from the top to minimise distortion.
Plywood backing is a no-no, standard material is Fomecore board.
Have a read of all the information on the Frameco website.
And Frameco (and others) often demonstrate picture framing at TWW Shows and many other craft shows. Worth watching if you intend to do some framing.Brian
