Real Recycling
There is nothing like chainsawing some tree branches back in the yard to stop overgrowing, sealing the ends, storing them in the shed for 8 months then wacking them on the bandsaw table and cutting some pen blanks.
One 30cm log of only about 10-12cm diameter produced about a dozen pen blanks
Recycling at its best (or is it simply cycling going from raw material to first useable state?) :confused:How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?

Sounds like a good way to get pen blanks, but i guess pruning the tree at ground level isnt seen as the best way to get more timber.
When driving to work I find myself looking at plants in peoples yards thinking they would be a nice size for a pen blank :eek:Brett

Dean,
Did you get anything out of those logs we got from my neighbours yard a year or so ago. Mine are still aging (must cut the suckers up one day).Wayne

Hi Wayne,
Yep most of them are still ageing
I cut some pen blanks from one of the smaller branches yesterday. Came out nicely. Some curly grain but should come up well with finish.
What species was that tree again? How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?
