Restoring an old dining table
I have a 1960's extendable dining table which is very good except for normal wear and tear and a woodgrain laminex top. I dont know how to describe the extension mechaism but you pull the ends apart and a folded leaf rotates up and is laid down and the ends pushed in again, adding an extra 2 seat capacity.
I want to completely refurbish this, extending it slightly (maybe 150mm each end) and probably veneering it so I dont have to hide it under a tablecloth.
This is a learning project for me- veneering, staining and finishing.
I am getting a copy of the Polishers Handbook as it is frequently recommended.
I know virtually nothing about veneering and would appreciate it if fellow boardies could recommend a suitable book that I could study.
Also, where in Sydney (preferably southern Sydney) can one buy veneer for such a project?
Thanks
Clint
