Rust Prevention on Handtools
What an age old question.
As a teenager starting to acquire my first handtools, I started a habit of keeping a spray like "DW40" up to my tools.
However, for a number of reasons it is far from ideal (none the least because someone told me that it is actualy corrosive to metal over time).
But what other options are there that is as easy?
What do other people do?
I have just spent a busy 6 months where I did not get to my tools often but now my planes, hammer, squares, sliding bevel etc are rusty and need to go back to the wire brush.

If you can stick them in a fairly sealed environment, throw in a couple of Silica packets. The silica will remove moisture from the air which is what causes the rusting.
Silica packets are those small packets of granules that come with most packaged electronics stuff.

Hi
There is a product called Silver Glide available from Carbatec.
I use it on cast iron machine tables to prevent rust, which it does.
It also contains no silicon, the mortal enemy of wood finishes.
Cheers, Allan

I too have had this problem and looking up rust removal in the archives here gave simple and complex solutions (an electric current in sodium bicarb being one of them) with plans on how to set it up
wine and wood
ahhhh yes life is good

Camillia oil (sp?), as favoured by Japanese woodworkers (who know a thing or two about steel), available from Carba-tec or Timbecon. Will not mar your timber.
