Sanding disks don't stay on
Hi there
I'm using a Black and Decker 4 in One in the random-orbital mode and having the devils-own making the disks stay on. First up they're good, then once it throws it off after a few minutes and then just won't stick on again. The disks are new and don't look damaged and jumping off. As far as I know the sander wasn't in this mode before (borrowed it to try out this kind of sander). I tried cleaning one that fell off with a vacuum cleaner - no joy. I'm trying to sand Timber Mate on mdf if that matters...

G'day Amanda,
If they're new disc throwing off, I don't reckon the problem is the discs.
It'll be the pad on the machine.
I've cleaned one before with a little success....but someone else may have a better idea.

Are you sanding flat or curved. I found that if you are sanding any shaped surfaces or edges, it quickly wears out the loops on the back of the papers, and they no longer stick. If in the flat, maybe the hooks on the sander are damaged, have a look under a magnifying glass. I have only seen this problem when using it in ROS mode, not the detail sanding modes.

I used to have this problem a lot and talked to B and D whose answer was that the hooks on the backing pad were worn out and this is a result of pressing too hard and overheating the pad. I have found it to be generally true. You can replace the pad - you can usually get the replacement pads in Bunnings. After it is replaced, keep a light pressure and let the sander do the work.

you can buy a replacement hook disc for on the machine you can either get a replacement part from the maker. Or I boughts a universal one from bunnings and cut it to fit & put in the holes for dust removal mine still still working after to 3 years of use.

I had this problem with the cheaper pads. i was using the norton ones you get from bunnings and was going to need a new one every couple of minutes. Once i got bosh ones or alike they worked fine and no probs since.

My experience suggests that all machines don't like to much pressure and if you overheat the pads on any of them the hook pad quickly deteriorates ending in the problem described.

Hi Amanda.
Just replace the hook pad on the machine. It will be worn down to a point where it wont hold the sanding disc when the machine is turned on.
Your local hardware store should have them available. If its like my machine, the hook pad is changed out by loosening off the holding screws.
