Question what sort of timber to use

Gidday all, wondering if any could give me some advice as to what I could use in a light coloured timber to make a pendulum out of for my next project, a longcase clock. Also any ideas on how I could rig up a swinging mechanism at the top to keep the timber pendulum swinging (this would all be for show, but with a working clock mechanism at the top
Thanks very much to anyone with any thoughts.
My only thought so far is to copy the plastic one in our small case clock, but carve it out of timber.
    Thanks again.

If you are looking for a hardwood you might see if you can get some Marri or Tuart.
I imagine that Tuart might be available in your corner of WA. On your next trip out, take a pocket knife and scratch a few old fence posts. If the wood is light in colour but hard then you are well on your way to success. I find that old fence posts are a good indicator of what wood was once plentiful locally and, if something that you can use was plentiful, then a fossick will usually find you a useable piece.
    Good luck.

    Hey Robert,

Thanks for your reply. Never gave old fence posts a thought!
Got hundreds of em round here and old farm houses, will definately give the posts a try, might have to wait till the old houses fall down a bit more tho.
    Many thanks.
