I've ordered books from Taunton, and they did take quite a while to arrive, but all was well when they did arrive.

As for Amazon, they do sell books (and other items of course) on their own behalf, as well as on behalf of other sellers. I've also ordered stuff through them and never had a problem.

    Chris,

I am having the same problem as you. I ordered a book in the 1st week of January '07 and still nothing. I have tried emailing via the contact form online and just getting the automated response. I aslo ordered the fine homebuilding DVD last year and still nothing many months later. Maybe they should market their products through Lee Valley - that way we'd get excellent service and fast delivery.

I'd certainly think twice about ordering from them again unless there was some improvement.

I must say that that is not my experience

recently I've ordered four things from the US, three came US Postal Global express Mail and the fourth DHL
DHL was the fastest — item ordered from Amazon Monday night (Aussie time) and delivered on Friday
Global express mail typically takes 5 days, but can be longer (if the item lands in Australian Customs over a weekend)

As to cost, to quote from my last advice Shipping Global Express Mail is $25.00, UPS is double that

Your post got me interested Ian.

So I ordered three Taunton books direct from Amazon (not their stringers). They arrived by air in 8 days for all of 17 USD and they were cheaper than Taunton to boot.

... the Hack books on planes and handtools as well as Lee on sharpening. Days of contented reading ahead. (And thank heavens I didn't throw out those old and rusty Disston saws!).
    Cheers, Ern
