Question Which timber and glue to use for a bath caddy?

    Hello everyone,
I want to build a bath caddy (one of those timber trays that sits over your bath, allowing you to rest a book or cup of tea on it). It would be exposed to a lot of steam and moisture since it sits only 200mm over the hot bath water. Could someone please recommend which timber or timber treatment I should use, and also which timber glue is recommended for this? I don't want my bath caddy to warp from the steam.

    Thanks!

    Default Bath Caddy

Hi Alis. Easy one there. Go for Huon Pine timber. Two pack epoxy glue and finish with two pack sprayed lacquer or two pack 7008 brushing varnish if brush polishing. renew the finish every 10 years or so!!

    Cheers Old Pete

I used Radiata for mine. With a Tung oil finish there has been no problem. Aquadhere waterproof glue does the job too.

Red face Photo of the finished product

Thanks for the ideas. Here is a photo of my finished bath caddy. It was my first project using a mitre saw. I used dressed pine and stained it in a dark brown stain. I finished it using a spray lacquer. I couldn't find any plans for bath caddies on the internet so I made up this design using six 10mm thick slats on four 250x250mm pieces to support/hold them together. Feels pretty sturdy.

    - Sorry, meant to say 25x25mm not 250x250.
