    Hi paddyjoy, I'd be headed for the building recycle yard, they would have lots of hard wood to choose from, for the frame and decking floor boards for the top and shelfs. The hardwood stands the test of time, if it gets left out side. I coated my last potting bench with as much marine varnish it could handle, 6 years later it's going strong.

    Personally, I'd go treated pine unless you are able to score some good hardwood from a recycling yard. Next up from treated pine would be some of the boards sold for decking - if you are able to use a thicknesser to get the reeding off the back (or can find un-reeded boards) you can glue laminate them together (Titebond or marine epoxy) to give you thicker sections for the legs and rails.

    Thanks for the tips, definately going to have to check out some recycled places. To buy new or reclaimed tallowwood/spotted gum/blackbutt will cost me.

    Based on prices from my local timber yard would be:

    16 lm of 68 x 32 DAR = $208
    4m2 of decking/flooring = $280
    Total = $488

    Are those prices high or is that pretty standard for hardwood?
