Torquata Parallel Clamps from Timbecon
Timbecon have a great range of stock to choose from and have had excellent service for the things I get from there. I've just noticed these: https://www.timbecon.com.au/clamps-v...arallel-clamps
I'm thinking I'll get a few to try them out. The cost for the pack of 4 works out to be half the price of the same size Jet/Bessey clamps. $45 vs $90
Anyone tried them?

Hey mate here is another alternative to the Bessey or Jet brand. They come in a large capacity than the Timbecon version too if you want something larger.
I have not used the Timbecon one. They do claim 400kg of clamping pressure which is less than Besseys 1500lbs (680kg)

And another source (from a forum member who offers a discount to members if you send "aldav" a PM):
2 X Parallel JAW Woodworking Clamps 12” 315mm NOT Bessey OR JET | eBay
AFAIK, but I'll stand corrected, these are the same as the Jet clamps, which are generally regarded as superior to Besseys (I have Besseys). They are made in Taiwan and I think the Besseys are now Chinese (but not certain).

Not sure. I normally get small things and it's around $15 postage. Even though I'm about 25mins from the store, it's easier to pay the postage when I can't get in there. It's usually delivered the next day. For longer things like the clamps, I imagine postage would go up a bit.
Thanks for the other options, I'll have a look and see whats available around Melbourne.

My experience is at the other end of the spectrum. Twice they have "lost" my packages. The 1st time I can uderstand and forgive: the 2nd box was sent by road freight as it was a heavy cast iron router table, although I cannot understand why it could be addressed incorrectly when it was the one transaction and the 1st box was addressed correctly and got to me with no problems. The 2nd incident was pretty much the same problem: received 1st box but the 2nd box was "lost" but this time around the 2nd box was just a couple of mitre slides and should have been sent with the other items.
Both times Timbecon were reluctant to chase up their freight company and I got the usual runaround (didn't call back when they said they would and I had to continuously chase them up). I explained to Timbecon that the only reason why I decided purchase through them instead of Axminster UK, who are a lot cheaper due to the low UK pound and no VAT or GST, was because I thought I'd get the items sooner. That's certainly not the case because the mitre slides took over 2 weeks to get to me and my purchase made on the same day from Classic Hand Tools, reached me before when the slides did. And to top it off, when I did eventually get the slides, they were missing the mitre retaining t-slot washer. The replacement took another 5 or so weeks. I suggested to Timbecon that while their freight company was locating my slides they should overnight express me a couple of replacemenets so that I wouldn't be delayed any further and when the slides are eventually found, the freight company could return it to them. Timbecon's response was to insinuate that I was trying to get a couple of extra sides for free. Their suggestion was to send me a couple of replacements (via the same freight compny that had lost 2 of my packages and not overnight express) and when/if the original slides turn up, i was to post it back to them at my own expense. That was the last straw. I'll no longer buy anything from Timbecon. Axminster have the same products at much cheaper prices (e.g. router lift from Axminster is $100 cheaper) and their delivery is more reliable and faster. Just make sure your purchase doesn't exceed $1000 so that you don't incur GST and make sure you maximise the shipping costs by ordering a few things. I find that on average I am saving at least 25% at that's with the international shipping factored in. Obviously, if/when the UK pound recovers, this will no doubt change.
Cheers,
Mike
