    Default Welping Box

One of our dogs(bitches0 is about to have puppies and l need to build a welping box.
Is MDF suitable for this? as the pups tend to chew on anything and everything.

    Thanks TIM

I asked a vet this question years ago when I was breeding some dogs, and he said probably not a good idea to use manmade (MDF, Plywood, Chipboard etc) because of the chemicals in them. Specifically Formaldehyde was mentioned

    Tim,

We (the old man) had about 15 litters of German Shepherd pups in a whelping box thrown together out of crappiata pine never had a problem. Was a bit nibbled by the end but not too bad. Will cost next to nothing to make.

i was asking about the mdf as there are a couple of sheets in the shed.

Can't see any reason why you can't use the MDF as a base. If they can't get to the edges of it they cant chew it.

Thats what l will do, the base will be better without any joins in it, easier to seal!

    Tim,

As A vet I think the MDF will not be a major risk for the animals ( Unless you have some mad chewers) but they can be messy little critters - lots of fluids of varying different types. Whatever you use will need to be sealed very well.
