Default 1 mm drill / 3mm drill chuck

    Hey guys,
Is there a collet or an adaptor that will allow me to hold 1 - 2.5mm drill bits in my drill that only has a minimum of 3mm? Tape works but only for half a hole....

Hey Steve I think what you are looking for is called a Micro chuck, its basically a small chuck which fits into your standard drill chuck.

Steve, I "just" happened to have to call in near the Wollongong branch of Jaycar, so I picked one up for myself. I'll give it a go with my letter set of drill bits . . . one day

Don't know what the Jaycar one looks like, but I use one of these little pin chucks, great for the little drills that the big chuck has trouble with
The drill in there is 2mm, but have used down to 1mm in there.

I get the pin chuck from CDCO in the US, about $US5.

I have one of the little chucks like jaycar have....they are more or less intended to go into hex screw driver things.

yeh they do sort of work in the drill press but....they arent real accurate.

For years I have neen using a pin vice... (jaycar should have too) for drlling printed circuit boards and other things.
You have to change the collets for the drill sizes but they are much more accurate and the ones you get in the electronics stores can be used by hand too.

Another option is to get a smaller chuck and morese taper arbour for your drill press.
A 1/2" chuck wont get you much under 1/8"... going down to a 3/8" or 1/4" chuck will get you down the last few steps on standard drills....wont get you into the small number drills though.

    cheers
