    Default Deleting uninstall folders

I have approx. 600 Meg of $NTUninstallKB*.* files sitting in my windows directory and would like to be rid of them. From what my research tells me, they can safely be deleted unless you need to uninstall an update. It has been over 3 weeks since a windows update has been performed and I have not had any problems, and see no reason to keep these unnecessary files. Do any of the computer gurus know of any reason not to delete these files.

In general they should be able to be nuked, but if you need to roll back to a previous system restore point you might have issues.

The other thing is how large is your hard drive? 600MB is pretty small these days (a 1 terrabyte hard drive runs to about $100 or so). 600MB is about 6c worth of storage...

I have a live-and-let-live attitude to most of these folders. If I have plenty of space, I'm not fussed.

If on the other hand you have a smallish hard drive and need the space (a disk getting full can slow the pc down a fair bit), then sure clean them up.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Thanks Dave, yeah 600 Meg is SFA these days, I've got about 118 G left on a 300 G hard drive so I'm not desperate for space. I was under the impression that the uninstall folders had nothing to do with "rolling back" your computer to a previous setting, but were in case you needed to uninstall an update if it was causing problems. I'd rather have 600 meg of music or photos than useless files clogging up the hard drive. Is this where the mac owners start getting involved ?

hmmm, dunno... You might be right there and I could be thinking of something else... Anyway, you probably an delete them without too much grief.

Oh, on a Mac, you would never see those files if they were there anyway. The OS would decide that you're not up to it and hide 'em for you

These folders backup your current files before a patch is installed. This allows you to uninstall the patch if you want to. . If you are happy with the way your computer has performed since the patch was installed and you have rebooted the computer a few times since and all seems well, they you can delete the folders from your computer.
