Timber for ACT and surrounding areas
Given that nothing has happened about the ACT delivery in the original thread, I have started a new thread to see if we can make this happen or not.
I also wanted to break this out - so get away from all the other posts.
A recap was that SPBookie (Charles) offered to coordinate a shipment for Canberra - but there has been no response from him to a PM's and messages on the thread. Hence this posting.
The latest situation quantity wise is (as best I can make out):
Spbookie 2 packs
Jeremy 1 pack
Numbat 2 pack
New Lou 1 pack?
SilentC 2 packs?
Aabb 2packs
OK that makes 10 packs - which if I have it correct, is pretty much what was ordered by the Victorians and by the South Ozzies ie 20 in total.
Looking at the other posts there are some issues to be addressed - namely:
1. this is a significant quantity of timber and it would be foolish to expect that it can be delivered to a suburban house, and
2. the stuff is likely to come on the back of a semi and they would expect a forklift or similar at the delivery point to unload the timber from the truck.
So if anyone can suggest where a delivery of this magnitude could be sent to (given the above), we might have a going order.
Aabb has been in contact with E. maculata (Bruce C) who indicates that at present there is no stock of this stuff left but there will be more, about 3 packs per week are a by product of the graded product, so by the time we get our act together there will be more.
So guys:
1. are you all still interested?
2. anyone else want to join?
3. ***AND MOST IMPORTANT*** where do we get the timber delivered to given the preamble.

I'm definately interested Numbat
Just have to wait and see what can be negotiated as far as delivery. It would be really handy if we could organise for the delivery to pass through Wagga Wagga on way to the ACT.
..............I'm open to any suggestions???
.......................................................Keep me posted on whats going on!!!

Thank's Numbat for getting this started again. It certainly something we should not miss out on - just a matter of getting logistics right.
I only wanted one pack - sorry if I lead you to believe otherwsie earlier.
My suggestion is get it delivered to central storage yard - if we can find one to take it - I would imagine haulage companies willing to deliver to Canberra would be able to advise us here. Presuming then they have a forklift truck can be unloaded.
Then a matter of getting it to the various addresses.... I liked your idea of tow-truck given ease of drop off at each location .... failing that then we would have to arrage trailer(s), split and manually load at depot and then unload at houses.
Anyway - first things first let's get interest confirmed and get back to Bruce re availability.
Regards
Albert

I don't know if this is any help or not... BUT for your information, Kieth53 and I joined forces for a structural pack and two flooring packs.
Flooring weighs about 750 kg and structural about a tonne as far as our load went anyway.
As posted elsewhere, we were able to arrange transport to a Brisbane Depot through the mill, at about $35.00 per pack.
From Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast a local delivery company transported it to their Depot (about $40.00 per pack) and then a crane truck moved it to Kieth's place (1.5 hrs @ $80.00).
I moved mine in three trailer loads with a couple of serious overhanging timbers on the last, but it would be no hardship to shorten the long boards, they are rejects after all, and it is unlikely that you'll recover the full length of them.
It probably took half an hour for two of us to load each time, and a little more to unload.
Small trucks are available (3 tonners) for about $120 per day, and would easily take a re-packed bundle, so it could be worth a few of you taking a truck for a day, and working really hard!
Cheers,
P

Yes I'm still interested if it can be worked out. I would come up with a long trailer to pick it up from Canberra, either from a depot or from somebody's house. Only problem is it would probably have to be a weekend.

HI Numbat, put me down for a pack of structural(90mm plus), don't have any idea's on delivery places. Many moons ago i had some timber delivered and they had a crane on the truck.
By the way how is the stainless railing going?
Cheers

Numbat,
No idea how I missed Bruce's thread first time round (how do you miss 13 pages  ). Thanks for flagging it up in a new thread. Now that I've caught up, is it too late to throw my hat in the ring for 1 pack of structural? No idea how I could pick it up though if delivered centrally - I'd have a tough time getting it all in the back of the Hyundai. One of the guys on Bruce's thread said his pack just got dropped off in his front yard. That would be ideal for me but don't know how possible it would be.
Cheers,
John

OK the latest tally I have is I think as follows:
numbat 1 flooring, 1 structural
newlou 1 flooring
aabb 1 flooring
silentc 1 flooring, 1 structural
baz 1 structural
jshaw 1 structural
That makes 4 flooring and 4 structural.
I will contact E maculata and see what the go is. What I will aim for is to try and get the full load delivered to an ACT area depot - it might be in Queanbeyan.
When I got some blackwood from Tasmania I also got a tipping truck to bring it to the front of my place - this cost a further $80. This was a towing type truck which would say handle 2 tonnes (being a large car). Given what Midge said if we work on 0.75T for a flooring and 1 T for a structural this is about 6 T - a bit too much for this type of truck. It may be possible to get a local truck with a crane that can lower it to the nature strip.
Now I do have a large nature strip in front of my house which might be able to hold this shipment. I know Baz lives near by. So 3 of the 8 packs could get shifted quickly.
The other option is to get the loads delivered to the depot then everyone make their own arrangements but I can see this getting complicated quickly and too much hassle for the depot.
SilentC (Darren) my experience is that yards are only open on weekdays to 5pm locally.
I am all ears if anyone has any other suggestions.
Failing that I will see what can be put together and post again here before doing anything.
Also I can see school holidays slowing things down as I will be away.

Sorry Numbat Just checked the latest on this thread; mine would be structural not flooring..............any chance on once you have begun transport negotiations seeing if there could be a Drop here in Wagga via Canberra ( or is that CAnberra Via Wagga???) I'm pretty sure they would have to go through this way anyway!!!!

Numbat,
My fist pref would be for a mixed pack - not sure if they can do that. Failing that I too would prefer structural.
Thanks

Clarification of your orders please
OK guys - from the original posting by E maculata there is this "There are quite a few packs of flooring, some larger structural sizes (maybe suitable for resawing) in all types of North coast species usually segregated by colour."
So I see that there is the following choices available:
1. flooring pack
2. structural pack
I dont see any reference to mixed packs. So before I do anything further can I please have clarification from aabb, SilentC, jshaw and NewLou which of the two packs you require.

As per PM - one of each but flexible depending on what's available and what other's want.
