Arron's spot on the Sundews are carnivorous plants.
IMG_0565.JPG IMG_0568.JPG
I haven't spotted one that's caught a bug yet, but I'll be looking out for one.
The only problem is they seem to grow close together over a large area, and I don't like stepping on them much.
Which may lead to a problem as it's about that time of year where the grass needs mowing.
I'm a country boy and don't mind snakes at all "So long as I can see them coming!".
And of cause the grass needs to be down to reduce the fire risk.
But there's beautiful little orchids all over the place!.
Down here everyone will tell you It's not a matter of if, but when it burns!.
It's easy to see looking around the property that a fire went through 10 or 12 years ago.
I very much like to see the 6 acres as habitat, but at the same time some common sense needs to come into play (which is not always my strong suit).
Cheers

I'm having great fun walking around the place seeing what's been springing up!.
Mind you I'm missing out on a lot of bird photos as I'm looking down more than up.

I was in the jungle (the lower two and half acres) running down to the gully.
It's really thick in there and hard to move around.
Not the best for photos as most of the time it's very dark.
I spotted Clyde and tried to get a shot with the 600, of cause with bugger all shutter speed and low light it was out of focus.
I didn't even see it at the time, but when I was having a look at the photos later I spotted something red in the frame.
I've enlarged it up, just behind Clyde's (out of focus) tail is an (out of focus) flower.

I went back down to try and find the spot where I took the photo.
But it was already after 5 and dark as sin down in there!.
I'll be going back to see if I can find it.
It's a kool looking thing!.
Cheers

Flower looks like an Acianthus.
Any time now you should be getting lots of returning migrants. I went for a walk yesterday and there were whiteThroated gerygones, rufus whistlers, shining cuckoos, Orioles and sacred kingfishers all calling continuously - just arrived and marking out their territories. They weren't there a week ago - these migrants arrive all at once, not in dribs and drabs. I'm not sure exactly which ones travel as far as Tassie but anyway your block will be transformed.
Cheers

I would love to have a backyard like yours Trev, full of nature at it's best. Thanks for the photos, and really glad Clyde survived his bit of excitement with the Hawk.

Again looks like your spot with the flower Arron.
I can hardly wait for the birds to arrive, the welcome mat will be out!
As backyards go I reckon it's a ripper Al.
I'm a lucky bugger and enjoy every day!

I went back down into the jungle this morning to see if I could fine the Acianthus and get a better shot of it.
I took a few photos of the area to try and give you an idea of how thick it is down there.

If you look really hard just to the left of the rock in the last photo above you can see the Acianthus.
IMG_0870.JPG IMG_0864.JPG IMG_0873.JPG IMG_0868.jpg
It's a tricky little thing to get a photo of.
IMG_0889.jpg IMG_0898.JPG IMG_0904.jpg IMG_0878.jpg
There's no shortage of spiders down there, and the sundew's are all over the place.
IMG_0900.JPG IMG_0914.JPG IMG_0912.JPG IMG_0915.JPG
The first photo above is looking back up the hill as the jungle thins out a bit, you can just see the shed roof on the sky line.
The last three photo's are of what I call "Dave's Place" my favourite part of the property.
It just a beautiful spot for sitting and waiting for the birds to show up.
Cheers

Looks like a great place to be with many photographic moments for the future. Like you have said before, the summer is the only worrying time.

The first time I saw that part of the property I said to Tayne "That's gotta be Dave's Place".
I could see you quite happily setting up camp down there for a holiday.
In the morning as the sunrises through the trees it's just beautiful.
Here's a couple of shots of a Cuckoo making short work of his breakfast and some flowers from down there the other day.

IMG_0824.jpg IMG_0825.jpg
Here's one I'm still getting used to "Duck's In Tree's".
IMG_0782.jpg IMG_0176.jpg
I had no idea that some ducks landed high up in tree's.
I think it's called an Australian Wood Duck.
The damn thing's a good 30 feet up there, quacking it's head off!.
And to finish off a pic of Clyde looking magnificent!.
Cheers mate
