    Default cbn wheels

    Hi guys.

An old topic I know but i need some help here.

I would like to get the vicmarc 200mm x 40 mm cbn wheel.
i have a AEG 550w grinder and need to know if this wheel will fit. I understand that i will need to remove the outer cover which is fine but will the inside cover interfere with the wheel? Is the arbor offset to one side so the bulk of the wheel will sit to the outside?

    thanks guys appreciate the help!!

Take off an existing wheel and guards and measure the length of the arbor.

You also need to check the diameter of the arbor/thread to ensure it is a fit for the CBN wheel you choose. Many of the CBN wheels are 5/8" on the 8", which is different from the 200mm wheel size, where the metric is 16mm. That is not a match.

    I have a Gen 1 version with a hole diameter of 31.75mm.
If you purchase one now it will be a Gen 2 with a 32mm diameter hole.
You will need to purchase a bush to fit your machine.
    See range of bushes here:
    Vicmarc CBN Grinding Wheel Bush

I don't know if the other dimensions have changed from my Gen 1 but the hole is 22mm thick and recessed from the outside by 8mm and recessed from the inside by 10mm. (All dims +/- 0.25mm)
You could swap it around but then lose access to the flat grind area on the side.

I think the OP is worried about whether the wheel will interfere with the guard rather than the arbor size.

Whether you can fit the wheel under the existing cover depends from grinder to grinder as all the wheel covers and positions of the wheel on the arbor are slightly different.

Measuring the internal space and whether the wheel will fit is tricky
You could make a 40mm mock up out of couple of existing wheels or wheels plus some MDF or just MDF ?
If the wheel touches the inside of the inner cover you can use a large washer to move the wheel over enough to clear the guard.

if push comes to shove you can remove both guards as the wheel will not disintegrate like a bonded ceramic type wheel.
The main reason to continue to use at least the inner guard is to protect the wheel against unwanted knock which may damage the CBN grinding surface.

I made a custom inner guard for mine but only because the grinder I used provided very limited access to any wheel mounted on that grinder.

That's what I did. I have the 240 grit Vicmarc CBN wheel. As Bob says, it's not going to shatter, nor is it going to do major damage to my fingers if I touch it.
