Grinder attachment for motor
Hi
I have just acquired a small 160watt motor which does not have anything attached to the shaft. I was just wondering if anyone knows where to buy motor parts/accessories. My plans are to turn this motor into a small bench grinder if I can acquire the necessary parts. Cheers

Have seen motors upgraded to grinders by people with access to lathes and welders fo make up spindle adaptors and guards etc. However in your case I suspect it would be largely wasted effort due to the low power of the motor, about 1/5th HP, or just slightly more than a Dremel. I consider most grinders below about 1HP to be marginal as they slow down/overheat under load too much. Then again I have been spoiled with 3HP grinders and 5 HP polishers, and have a heavy hand.
Remember, whatever you do, wheel guarding is not an optional extra and the whole rotating setup, (shaft, adaptors, wheels etc) must be balanced to avoid harmfull vibration, and the wheel must be trued up.

As an alternative, if you are happy with low power and 6 inch wheels Aldi will have a 150W 6inch grinder for $35 for the week starting next Thursday Sept 10. Would be cheaper than buying stones, making adaptors and guards etc, but I suspect that it would still be marginal for power.
