    Hi

My immediate response was going to be 'b#$*&@y' flat, but in the interest of accuracy, I asked the guys at Woodpeckers to test a batch, the result was 0.0015" tolerance, therefore my original thoughts were right.

The system is beautifully made and is easy to use, 'though the 0.3 micron film is so fine it takes a bit to work out 'which side is up' FYI 0.3 micron equates to less than 4 thousandths of the thickness of a human hair, now that's 'b#$*&@y' fine.

Graham, so the flatness is out 0.0381mm over the 356mm length . . . So the gradient is 0.010702 % Grade . . . 0.0061319 DEGREES. Geez I wouldn't want to push uphilll

The test was simply, what was the variance over the whole plate? The answer 0.0015".

    LOL.

Well, this system is based on the Scary Sharp principle, ie. abrasive sheet on a flat surface.

Most SS users employ plate glass. The variation there is a hundredth of an inch.

No drama on the bevel with that, but if you're lapping and polishing the back of a plane blade or chisel, you quickly run into problems if you're using hardware shop W&D.

But the striking thing about WP's is that their figures are not manufacturer's design specs, they're outcome measures.
    Cheers, Ern
