    Default GMC thicknesser

If you can find one grab it quick. I bought one a couple of years ago and it has been great - I've really given it a flogging.

Bloke in Bunnies this morning said they are not stocking the GMC anymore, but will be selling the new Triton (owned by GMC) but will be dearer (of course).

For the record, the GMC and RYOBI are identical except that the RYOBI comes with a dust hood (at least mine did).

Since hooking my RYOBI up to the dust collector it made a huge difference. The thicknesser is probably the machine in my shop that creats the most sawdust and if you are not collecting it, it builds up quick.

Default Ozito (aka GMC aka Ryobi)

    Hi all,

Thought I'd stop lurking and actually start contributing something

While on my travels today looking for any left over GMC thicknessers at Bunnings I noticed that the Ozito is an exact replica of the Ryobi (including the dust shroud, and cosmetically different scale on front).

While a bit more expensive - $269 or $279 - than the GMC, for those who missed out like me (didn't have anywhere to hide it from SWMBO ) it's worth knowing about. I only saw it stocked at Blacktown - not Norwest or N Parramatta though.

If anyone has seen a GMC in Sydney though, please let me know... I managed to make a hidey hole today!

    Good on ya Nick.

(for coming out that is. )

Bunnies here in Cairns has nothing... zero, zip, zilch, not anything, (this includes brass monetary coinage &/or rodent's southern orifices)

    Anthony/Nick/Cliff........
Thanks for the input, I am thinking I may dip into the kids inheritance and but a jointer/thicknesser combo. These units are 10" wide wheras the Thicknessers are around 13" wide. How often do you need the extra width?...I know it depends on what you are making but for me, I think maybe 99% of what I would do would be under 10" width....
Anyone like to comment on how important the extra 2" is?

You could invest in a unit like this http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/ind...h=180_410_2610.

Its much the same as mine and as long as you regularly cleanit out it should give you plenty of service. The replacement blades are reasonably cheap as well.

All the units mentioned will do a good job. Mine was $450 and has machined 100's of metres of wood of all varieties without a problem. Its noisy but unless you spend $1000 to $2000 for a trade quality machine you cant change that. If you arent able to use a dust extractor use the machine outside and sweep up.

Some old wizened up coot told me sweeping was good for you. Lemme know how that works out

If you have a GMC - do a bit of a search on here - we sourced a dust collector hood that fitted the GMC perfectly some time ago - about $30 from Hare & Forbes.
