I got the Autobarn catalogue today. Drill $14.99 Jigsaw $14.99 Angle grinder $14.99 Sheet sander $14.99

How do they do it for that price and how can you go wrong. Think I'll get one to oput in the cupboard as a spare !!
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

I get a bit worried about the pressure the imports place on our economy. For emergiing giants like China and India, it could cause some problems for our domestic market and also the US Market in the coming years. I too don't understand how they sell them for that much. I like and have used GMC but there is a whole new bottom bottom of the market.

I too received the Autobahn catalogue and saw the amazing prices.

However, I think in a short time prices may start to creep up a little. There is now starting to be a shortage of raw material and looking at the financial sections of newspapers one cannot help but notice that the coal suppliers are grinning at the latest prices they are getting for their product.

Diesel fuel around the world is starting to creep up.

Then there is the Chinese currency still pegged to the US dollar. When they float the Chinese currency is when Chinese prices will really go up.

I have a good friend who visited Shanghai a few months ago with his Chinese wife. Both of them commented on the fact that prices in China for basic labour are now really starting to go up as people demand to be paid wages. Apparently it's fairly normal for industry in tough times to suspend money wages and supply basic shelter and food instead.

Well these days seem to be over and the workers are now in short supply so money actually has to change hands. It's a slow process but the impact will gradually be felt around the world.

Reading between the lines, when the Chinese break their currency from the US dollar, it should rise to it's more true value. This will mean higher prices and the Americans are really going to understand what a free market means.

For myself, I'm purchasing a fair amount of cheapish power tools and bits as it's the first time in my life that I can afford such a vast array of tools at such a low price.

In other words, I'm making hay whilst the sun shines!

    Good call, Mick;
I try not to think about the labour issues when I buy cheap power tools. I didn't like being a process worker in Australia, even with good pay and conditions and ok employers. I'd hate to be a factory worker in China, quite frankly.

So when prices go up, it'll be a bit of a blow for us, but if it's part of improving the quality of life for perhaps millions of workers, then that's gotta be better, on the karma side of things, anyway. Dunno about the economic side.

I'll miss those cheapies, though. They've been good to me.

Maybe just then we'll come to realise the value of a home grown industry instead of exporting our raw materials, expertiese and goodwill for next to nothing and buying in completed product at a huge price. Problem is we cannot afford to wait till the bottom falls out before we gear up. The loss of the Bonham chuck to a chinese copy for a few dollars gain to some now...........when the bottom drops out we won't have those Aussie manufacturers around to step in anymore.
Like the big B slogan: "Cheaper prices is just the beginning". Yeah right, once the opposition is wiped out, the beginning is the end.........pay our price or do without.

I've seen this happen in my previous life.........wasn't nice though.

    Enjoy your weekend
