brushes?
 i have a router and a trimmer that decided to die last weekend.
they still start but don't run for long and on reduced speed!
could this be something as simple as brushes or am i dreaming
i took the brushes out of the trimmer and they were worn but not excessively.
thanks

One carking it might be brushes, two at the same time is prolly something else and I would suspect it's voltage related.
I am not 100% what's going on there, as I am not there, but it kinda smells like something amiss with how the power is getting to whatever you are plugging these two things into. Check it out thoroughly, plug the tools into somewhere else, just go over the whole thing at least twice. Seems more like a loose connection at some point to me, with starting but not running for long and the reduced speed.
If it is what I think it might be, it would be best to find it and get rid of the problem ASAP. If you can't fix the problem, at least find where it is and call in a sparky.

i don't think its anything to do with the power (but i've been known to be wrong more than once).
i should have said they died in 2 different houses.
1 in my house and 1 at a mates place.
i have no trouble with any power tools plugged into the same point the router was plugged into

strange coincidence they should both cark it at the same time
long shot but there's a possibility the carbon from the brushes has deposited itself between the commutator sections, not allowing the current to the correct windings. if it is this, it can be fixed but means complete strip down of motor
best take to your local repair agent who can do proper diagnostic on it

That makes a little bit of a difference.
Kinda like being a little bit pregnant...
Brushes can still look good, but won't be pushed into the commutator hard enough. The motor will work, but at reduced power/speed.
Grab an extra pair, throw them in a see what happens. If nothing, brushes are cheap and it's good to have spares. If it works, then you got your tools back in order.

thanks i'll replace the brushes and see what happens.
if it doesn't work might be a good excuse to buy some new ones
