    Default Carba-tec in NZ (Auckland)

I had the pleasure of a visit to the Carba-tec franchise in Auckland on Thursday.

    I'm impressed.

I know of no other outlet in NZ with such a comprehensive collection and display of professional and enthusiast woodie gear. The staff are genuinely helpful and friendly. The range of gear available is terrific. I was a bit cautious at first about prices, (add 20% to the Australian published catalogue prices) but on the items I checked, they seem to be about comparable with local prices. However many of the items of hand tools I've never before seen in NZ.

I got onto them through a link from Woodwork Forum about 10 days ago. Within 36 hours their excellent catalogue was in our rural mail box.

As I had to drive SWIMBO to Auckland for a dental appointment on Thurs. I got reluctant permission for a slight deviation off SH1 on the way home.

I had 4 items on my shopping list. Got 2, and 2 specialist router bits, new to the catalogue will come next month. SWIMBO found plenty to interest her in the books on display. She also expressed interest in a Pyrography set, so that is her birthday present for next month.

If any woodie within striking distance of Auckland hasn't been there yet, I can recommend a visit.

Carba-tec seems to me one of Australia's better exports to NZ.

    Pete:
Carba-tec address is 110 Harris Rd East Tamaki. Take the Otara exit from SH1.

Sorry, I haven't found Chevpac on my radar!

(I've trapped 8 possums from one oak tree in 4 weeks earlier this autumn.)

    Rob,

Go to Chevpac in Pamure next time you are there. I understand that their showroom has the largest display of woodworking machinery in NZ, very cool!!. The web site is - www.chevpac.co.nz They have a pretty good online catalog too. The place is great for getting the difficult stuff.

    Regards

    Pete

Wouldn't have a recipe for Possum pie? I have a couple in the back yard that might end up in the pot

    Phil
As Possums in NZ carry Bovine Tuberculosis, they are not a popular culinary delicacy. Remember the old saying:
One man's meat is another man's possum
    or something like that.

    Pete,
Thanks for the info about Chevpac.
I looked up their website, and certainly their range of machinery is impressive.

Next time I'm in Auckland I'll try to schedule a visit, as my nearly finished new
workshop will soon be ready to receive some new toys.

I recommend you ask Carbatec for a copy of their printed catalogue. A Google search for Carba-tec New Zealand should take you there.
