Default do you "carve " with these things?

i dont have a real festool, i have the GMC equivelant but have never used it - $20 at Bunnies, it was too cheap not to buy. Thing is, i am making a box for a friend and i want to carve a dragon on the lid. as much as id love to do this with my router (the most favourite tool ever) its obviously not the way to go. Do you mark out the plan on the wood and then grind away? Is that how its done?

for carving, i use a dremel, are you sure you wanted to post this in a festool thread, would the routing thread be better for you?
