Fitting extra wing on TSC-10HB?
G'day,
I have the option to return or keep an extension wing and fit it to my TSC-10HB.
I'm not to sure about how it would go as the 3 holes on the outside of right wing aren't threaded. I can turn the extra wing around so that at least I'd be using the support given by facing the threaded holes side of the extra wing into the right wing. (does that make sence?)
My question is do you think there's enough support in the right wing to take the additional weight of another wing?
I like the idea of the extra bed space given by doing this, but I'm just not sure.
Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Are the outer edge faces machined square?

Waldo,
I'd give it the provided you can suport it using the fence rails. I wouldn't just cantilever one exension wing on to another though. Are your fence rails long enough for another wing, and do you have, or can you add, a rear rail?

G'day ChrisP,
Just went down to the shed and checked. Yes, the front rail has an extra hole which mates with one in the wing. The rear rail is short a hole, but a twice-measure-drill-once and that would soon be sorted out.
I had thought of tapping a thread in each wing, but changed my mind given that a bit out could stuff things up.
So, the general consensus...?

Waldo, I would be checking the webbing under the wing to see if it would carry another wing with the support rails as well.

G'day Djstimber,
All the wings have the same webbing and the same beefed-up thickness behind each hole.

If that the case, I would say that it's likely that you could do so with some additional support from either the rails or some form of legs.
I would tap the holes on one side of the wing, as the holes should be all lined up I would imagine. If you need taps to do so, I should have the correct size here in my kitCheers

G'day Djstimber,
I've found that I will have support from the front and rear rails, tapping threads would be a definite bonus in the existing wing and the extension. I have a decent set up of taps and dies, more than the average bloke - I'd have to check if I have the right size. If not I'll take up your offer.

Gidday Waldo
Mate the wings that came with the table saw were the wrong ones right? so you had to wait for the proper ones to turn up right? and the ones that came with it are light steel right? and the ones that came later are heavy steel right?...
If so then thats what I got... I havent as yet connected the extra wings but have considered it a few times the extra weight of both the two that came with it wouldnt be as much as a single proper wing... putting one on say the laft side facing the saw to give yourself a bigger bed wouldnt cause any dramas as far as weight goes I shouldnt think... although you may have some issues tryin to fit the sliding table to the extra wing that is thiner than the proper one and that I think is why Ive so far avoided doing it... its probably weaker than the cast one that the machine was meant to have but didnt
Anyway let us know what you decide and if you do go ahead show us how you did it and what the results areBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

G'day Dingo,
Yep, that's about it. But both wings are the same construction and steel. You see they gave me the old wings instead of one of them being the new router wing. So I made a phone call and got sent the correct one.
both wings are the same construction, steel and weight. (except for the hole)
Will do, except I'll post in my my thread: "It followed me home... honest" http://www6.cyanide.com.au/%7Ewoodwo...ad.php?t=49494
I'm still waiting on the base and reducer to arrive yet, then I'll post shots of the complete set up and my ingenious plumbing.
Dingo, I just noticed that you raised an issue I hadn't thought of. Will I be upsetting the balance of the t/saw with an additional wing?

If its the same thickness and construction as the proper wing then yes Id say so ... you are adding a fair bit of weight on one side only so you would need to add the same weight to the other side to even it out... dont know how you will do that though
Mine came with flimsy pretend steel wings and it took me some months to get the right wings from them... when they came the difference in quality thickness and stucture was increadible but I still have the two flimsy ones sitting in a corner of the shed waiting for me to think of some use for themBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! If you use a set of adjustable legs, this should over come the prob of tipping the machine, plus they will support the extre wing at the sametime

Waldo, I assume your saw is identical to mine (except for the hole) and I would not want to hang a second wing out on the right hand side. Stress aside, it would make it a bit of a handful to move. I built my router table the same height (both saw and router are on castors) as the saw, planning to put a couple of locating bolts into the left wing to stop it moving but it turned out to be unnecessary - stays put. I guess in your case I'd put a spare wing out on the left with a couple of struts down to the mobile base, maybe. That would give you about the same table area as my saw/router table combined - which works really well (see background of photo attached). But I assume your router wing is left-mounted so you wouldn't want anything outside that. Reckon I'd send it back mate.

Hi Waldo,
I've attached the router wing to my 10HB, but I haven't been game to put the big bustard triton in her yet! I've been fiddling around trying to find a solution I can trust, but:
1. the wing is blue and the table orange (says enough)
2. the wing matches the bolt holes in the existing RHS wing, but not in the front or rear rail
3. the wing itself is damned heavy - must be the full monty unlike Dingo's
4. even attached to the rails, I'm leary of that wing + router + fence + timber weight
so my decision after writing this (thanks ) is to put down some adjustable legs (90x90 pine perhaps?) and maybe even a bit more of an enclosed base + drawer(s). After all, I can't use the space under the router + wing anyway, so I may as well use it for storage. Hmm, thinking more, I reckon a mobile unit with lower drawer, open upper so the router gets air, and adjustable feet to press it up & under the wing to support the weight is a goer - my TS is on a mobile base so I've got to be able to move the wing support as well. I'll probably start with a couple of 90x90's though .
