    Default Saw handles

A friend bought this saw at the wood show. The basic saw is ok, (my theory is that all saws become equal, the first time they're re-sharpened, as long as the steel is somewhere near the mark) but the handle was about as crude as you can get, and my mouth had already said "I can fix that" before my brain cut in with the list of other small jobs waiting for time and opportunity.
I should have been doing something else, yesterday, but it was an awefully boring job for a Sunday afternoon, so I snuck out to the bench & spent a couple of hours with a bit of scrap American Walnut I happened to have. I think the result is a bit more hand-friendly, as well as easier on the eye.....

Just what I was hoping to do, but I haven't found a saw yet - the pistol grip looks heaps better. Was it a new or 2nd hand saw - looks pretty new. How thick was the walnut?
    Cheers from NZ

Nice job Ian, not only looks good but I'm sure it's better to use. Many think that the fancy bits on dovetail saws are just for looks, but they help the saw sit in your hand without you having to grip it, and let the weight of the saw do the work.

    Nice job Iain!

Now all you need to do is change the blade and you'll have a decent saw!

    Kidding.

I agree, there are many saws that improve out of sight just with the correct amount of set, and most new Western-style saws come with too much. Easily corrected.

Great job once again. (I've been on the look out for a decent blade to do exactly the same).

    Regards from Perth
