New Makita 10.8v Radio
MR051-10.8V Mobile Radio
Does anyone own one of these baby's?
Going for around $60 - $70, just wondering if they're any good.
Also, does anyone know if you can run it off mains?

Read what's contained in the standard accessories tab, no battery no a/c adaptor, no mention of capability of being mains powered. For as long as my ring points down I'll never understand jobsite radios. Disruptive and discommunicatiing. Ought to be banned. Buy yourself a decent set of bits or drills with your money, leave the toys for the tools.

I have always enjoyed having the radio on when in my workshop or on site. When working by one self the sound is like company and helps pass the time. It is also informative if only to keep track of time, or the latest sport score. Rather than spending my money on a Makita radio I bought a digital radio with re-chargeable battery. May not be as loud as a "job-site" radio but it does the job and a lot easier to find the station.

I also like to have the radio on my shed as a background filler. I have tinnitus and the "noise" helps with the tinnitus. My problem with the current modern radios is that they will not suck in the stations. I have tried numerous models including a Dick Smith one that was made for "The Outback" and it was no better than a normal one. The old valve radios could pull stations in from long distance but the new ones won't/can't.
I live 12 miles as the crow flies from Tamworth in a narrow valley. surely you would think a radio signal would be adequate.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Chambezio, you should be getting AM signals OK, FM is obviously a bit more difficult.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Hey Bob
I can get the local 2TM (commercial) and the ABC, only marginally. FM I try to listen to the local 2YOUFM but even it wafts in and out while the ABC FM is quite marginal even though we are supposed to have access to at least 3 stations. It has just gotten worse over the years. Any plugin radio struggles while the car radio is only fairly good. By the way TV reception is a whole different thing altogether, that is why we have Austar And then we move on to Internet access. Dialup is just way too slow so we went Satellite which is almost as slow as dialup now. Patience is a slow growing vertueJust do it!
Kind regards Rod
