Metabo SXE450 Dual ROS
Further to some excellent feedback earlier- anyone have experience with a Metabo SXE450?. I am bidding (Ebay) on a Makita 9046 but a contributor suggested a look at this unit for some serious stock removal on HW benchtops.
Thanks in advance

JourneyMan Mick has always offered good advice amonst others, I am sure there is someone out there that has a Metabo Duo.
P.S If the 9046 is a good sander in it's own right , but it is job specific. Not as good as I thought it would be on painted surfaces, but good on clean timber. If the sander is less than $150 AU I would grab it.

well- I got it at around $140 plus $20 postage. Now have to haul it back to Australia. And I am intrigued by those Dual Metabos- maybe have to stop off in Singerpore on the way home. Thanks for your help

Mate, my brother in law works for Skilled Engineering where they use these exclusively for finishing metal surfaces. He rates the Duo very highly.
The duo was out of my price range but I got a metabo sxe425 125mm (duo is 150mm) ROS and am very happy with it. Only one orbit diameter (the duo has 2, hence the name) but full wave speed control & low vibes.
If you get one make sure you register for the XXL longer warraty deal through Metabo's head office.
Cheers.......Sean

I have one and I love it - I've owned it for 1 year and thrashed it. (as thrashed as a weekend warriors tool get).
It is a great sander and really is as good as 2 ROS.
The only thing I would change is the method of changing orbit, it is a bit hit and miss as opposed to the festo switch.
BTW some have had fan problems that lead to overheating and auto cut out - quickly and easily fixed under warranty - no worries.Great minds discuss ideas,

Vino,
I have a Metabo Duo 450 and it is a great machine, very well balanced, ergonomic, no vibrations, leaves no marks and it removes fair a bit of stock for an OS (it is not a belt sander). If you use good quality sand paper on it it just seems to never wear out.
I cant compare it to other models of ROS because I never owned another but over the years I had a few OS and this is just another league.
I cant fault the machine and I would buy it again.
Buena suerte

Metabo Ros
I have to agree with the last couple of postings, I have one of these little beauties and they are a fabulous sander. I "stepped up" from a little orbital sander, and there is just no comparison, the ROS is in a differant league. The machine makes sanding such an easy job, you let the machine do all the work!
I concur with Dave in that it can be a bit tricky to get the change in orbits, I haven't used the FESTO so I can't compare the two machines, but if there was one thing I would change it would be to place some sort of indicator so you can easily see what orbit you are in.
I haven't had any fan problems yet, and I used it fairly heavily last summer. All in all a really good machine.
Best Regards,
Michael

I have one too. i bought it on the recommendation of Les Miller, he uses the Metabo and the Festo. So far I have used it to finish a workbench.
It is very solid and does a great job. I think I paid $360 for it but I think it is a great investment and dont regret the purchase.
