Which Rebate-Planers can cut a groove/slot?
Dear Lads,
Have any of you ever come across an electric Rebate Planer that can actually cut a groove or slot - ie. a rebate that starts some distance in from the edge of the sheet, so that the timber ends up being unplaned for whatever desired distance you want in from the edge, and then your 82mm wide (or whatever width for that matter) slot or groove is planed in, obviously in-between full depth timber on each side...
Usually the bottom of the belt housing or gearbox gets in the way of doing this with your domestic "Garden-Variety" Rebate Planer, but I wonder if there are any particular models out there that can do such a thing better than the rest, even if they weren't designed with this ability specifically in mind. A "Cheapy" would be preferable since I may want to do a little bit of modification/butchery to it...
Heck, now that I think about it, it probably wouldn't even have to be a Rebate Planer per se, just as long as the bottom of any protrusions or housings on each side of it were at least above the line where the rear metal bottom plate meets the main plastic casing. Doesn't even have to be 82mm wide.
If any of you have, or have seen, a planer that might be set up favourably in this particular aspect, I would appreciate hearing back from you.
Many Thanks,
Batpig.

Yeah, I call that a router
Seriously, I used an electric rebate planer on the frames of my houseboat and an extension to my previous house, it cut rebates 35mm wide in the bottom and top plates of the frame and you adjust the depth.
When I built this place I didn't have access to that Makita rebate planer, so I used my Makita router with a 35mm bit. Used it in overhead mode on my old Triton Mk3

Guys,
You are probably talking about the 3803A dedicated Groove Cutter. Too over the top altogether... (and just a little too narrow, too...)
Anything with the underside of any protrusions on either side being no lower than the join line between the main plastic casing and the bottom rear metal baseplate, will be of interest (except for that "over the top" Mak...)
But thanks all the same.
Batpig.
