    Default rust prevention on thicknesser

A good Sunday afternoo one and all.

Whilst fiddling about with planes and saws and other tools unencumbered by power cords I have inadvertently let my DeWalt benchtop thicknesser go rusty. It has degraded to such an extant, I am ashamed to say, that I could not raise or lower it.

I have pulled it apart, removed the rods/pillar/bits the cutter head rides up and down on, cleaned them w&d and WD40 and reassembled. So far so good.

My question my fellow forumites is this. What sort of rust preventative would you recommend for this machine? I know I could just give it a good old squirt of G15 (my personal favourite at the mo') but I'm concerned about all that oil clagging up with the sawdust/shavings from the machine when it's doing what it's supposed to.

    Would Silverglide be suitable?

I look forward to the ever informative replies that I have come to expect for this fine body of knowledge.

    Cheerio,
    Virg.

I would suggest dry type lubricant that build a thin film. Preferable NON-Silicone..., One product I know is SUPER-LUBE , also Dry-Cote ...

unfortunately I haven't have a chance to try the last product as it's not available localy here...

I have used /Silverglide abd found that it does what it says - keeps the rust off and doesn't contaminate the wood.

U-Beaut's Traditional Wax - if it has a metal surface then it gets waxed.

(which reminds me, it's about time I did the b/saw, jointer and c/saw a go again)
I make things, I just take a long time.

I have exactly the same thread on another area. I just cleaned up my machine and tried traditional wax this time as I did have silverglide on it and it did not last long enough - hence my situation being the same as yours.
