Default Problem with Ryobi Mitre Saw

Hi all, new to the group and after reading posts I have already found things useful.
I am just a practice woodworker and decided to buy a Ryobi Mitre saw with laser guide EMS1825SCL.
I found that their money saving idea of having a sticker for the mitre guide has come unstuck so to speak. After waiting 4 months for the guide to be replaced they found they hadnt brought mitre guide replacements into the country with the saws. So they replaced the saw with another with exactly the same problem, finally it was sorted out when the manager gave me a refund so I purchased another brand where the guide is etched into the base. So that is the story of my first and last purchase of a ryobi item.

I'ved used a few differant slide compound saws and found the hitachis to be the best, they start at around $900. The bigger ones are belt driven so they are nice and quiet.

I've got a GMC SCMS - it howls like a banshee and it is heavy as , but it cuts all right for a hacker like me. Replace the blade as a priority - the junk that they come with is pretty ordinary.

I ended up getting the 2500w GMC with the laser guide. Same size as the ryobi on but the mitre guide is actually etched onto the based and not stuck on by a crosseyed worker. Havent used it yet but I chose the GMC as I have their cordless drill and have had no problems with that. Hopefully the saw will be the same.

Not if you bought a GMC it isn't. They are the same thing just rebadged.

See other threads on this BB re GMC and Ryobi. Not too much of it is complimentary.

I haven't looked but I don't recall seeing to many ppl baging the GMC SCMS. I have one and am quite happy with it. After fitting a better blade and fiddling a bit it cuts reasonably accurately and I find the laser to be a useful feature.

I am sure we would all like to buy a Makita or DeWalt SCMS but most hobbyist cant afford or justify that sort of $$$ on a SCMS. I have made a number of purchases recently, mostly budget machines, none of which I would have if I bought a $1000 SCMS. I intend to spend some big $$$ shortly but I prefer to put that sort of cash towards a table saw and jointer.

You get what you pay for and I have paid for a number of budget power tools I will get lots of fun out of, and if the GMC's die I will go and get another one.

Just from listening to a couple of Wood is, I overheard that the “GMC Saws” are copied from the DeWalt.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

I have a Ryobi CSS1000 10inch SCMS which I have had for about 9 months. It is not the laser guide model.

The interesting thing is that mitre guide markings is an aluminium strip that is actually rivited on to the base and as well as the compond degree strip is the same.

I was skeptical about buying a cheap SCMS but apart from the crappy 40 tooth blade that came with it which I replaced with a Irwin 60 tooth blade I am pretty happy with the way it cuts.

I find it is accurate with 90° cuts. The stops are not very positive but as long as the mark is on the degree strip it is ok.

I have bort a Ryobi Circular Saw MODEL ECS1350 from Bunnings in Morley some 6 months ago. Sone after I have tried to porches blades odder then the combination, standard blade that comes with the saw. “WITH OUT SUCCESS”!
Since the saw has a Blade Bore Size…24mm I can NOT find one place that sells blades for this saw.
The last stroke was two weeks ago Monday , 5 July 2004, wen Simon from the Tool shop at Bunnings ordered and resewed a now bore for the Ryobi Circular Saw MODEL ECS1350 since Ryobi has admitted that, that particular model of Saw had been a bundle it was Made with the wrong Bore Size.

The biggest surprise to mi was that the now bore didn’t fit either…NO IT DIT NOT FIT TO ANY BLADES IN THE STOR AT BUNNINGS.
    Soh what is the problem??
I have been travelling all over Perth for the last 6 months not being able to bay a Blade to fit this SAW!!!

The Blades I am looking for to fit this saw was to be a fine tooth crosscut for plywood and lemonex mmonex, and a rip blade finer then the standard blade, that comes with the saw. I was under the impression that this was easy! Not for a Ryobi saw aberrantly??
I am a vert disappointed costumer.

    Default Sliding mitres

My MKII Triton has seen better days and it's Ryobi saw has had a meltdown.
The intention is to replace the Triton with either a GMC LSMS250 or a Ryobi EME2025SCL sliding mitre.
What's the preference? I have seen a review of the GMC and it sounds like good value. Has anyone had experience with the Ryobi?

    Cheers

    Roughie
