Some gnarly Blackwood
Not done and dusted yet
Got a phone call yesterday from an old neighbour
Hey Mapleman...want some Blackwood logs?
Yes please was the reply
Around 15 odd trees averaging 1000mm girth and bigger
Here's pics of a few of them...and a couple of boards that i milled from one of the 'twigs'

Looks really good mate, but that cow looks worried - that axe would cut a few mean steaks

Looks like some fabulous, spectacular grain there. I just bought a 12"x4' chunk off a neighbour (some 4m of it), but it's very pedestrian by comparison.
Broke it down to 4x4 so far. He hadn't painted the ends, so you can imagine what happened.
How long are you going to season it for? I have one in my firewood lot that I planted 25 years ago that is similar size to what's in your photos and it's been standing up dead for a couple of years.
Don't have a chainsaw mill though

A lot of the trees were dead standing and the rest were 'on the way out' so to speak
Blackwood if given the right conditions seasons fairly rapidly
They will have spectacular grain alright
The twisted and tortured paddock trees produce the most beautiful wood
Post some pics of your stuff if you get a chance
Would love to see the kiwi grown stuff...MMMapleman

This is all of the new stuff that I've got planed so far (and I made the wee
scoop out of a thin offcut that was split any which way otherwise, just for the hell
of it).
Going to re-saw to 21mm some time soon.

Couple more pics
Be plenty of stump material
They have very shallow root balls which surprised me...very much like Southern Silky
Being a tree with a heavy, expansive head,it is amazing how they keep themselves upright with such a small root system
More pics this arvo...MMMapleman
