I think you'll find it wasn't used for 'milling' per se, more for docking. This wouldn't have been able to produce the timber in the last picture
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

Cool ol maybe for docking up the split timber fence posts...and yeh it looked as though it was the wrong machine to get those nicely milled boards...find random stacks like these every where..the forgotten timber stacks...it's a shame because it's Jarrah it would have been better off in a nice dry shed somewhere...

It would be a firewood saw, hence the stack of old fence posts. These saws were popular prior to the chain saw and, for that matter, still are for thin log docking or old fence posts. As each log has to be lifted to cut, larger logs are easier with a chain saw. No way the sawn board stack would have come off that saw. More likely waiting to be docked into fire wood due to deterioration.

The saw couldnt be used for ripping with the arbor above the bench. I guess it was any blade in a storm.

    Yup, my thoughts above too.

Imagine if they took a little more time fabricating this and put the arbor below the bench? Then they would have had a more useful tool all round....
