Hey Carl, you need to learn where to stick your mill, sometimes moving the log is much better. A few times I've soldiered on milling up/down a gradient, but it's for mugs and even though the power head is on wheels and you don't pull the full weight of it, it sure gets to feeling like it after awhile.

I charge extra if the logs aren't in a pile ready to mill, charge extra if I have to move the mill around the yard to logs. Mind you my milling rates are lower, but I like milling not moving the mill or snigging logs around.

I'm just cooling down now in our bedroom with A/C, shirt is still wet from sweat. I've been chucking a ceiling up after dinner. Toady has been a good day for swimming - bad for milling

Hey did you do some milling of Silky Oak for a Lady called Joy at the gap?

I still find either white hot tea with sugar or cold tea with lemon and sugar works for me on a hot day (until it's time to knock off for the day when the thirst can be slaked with beer).

so i got it finished in just under 2 hours this arvo.

it cost him $580 to get us to dock the log up and mill it.

approximately 3 cube in all. allthow we had to waste half the biggest piece approximately .6 cube as when the tree was blown down it split badly in 2 directions.

    we ended up with

    250m of 4x2s @ $5.50/lm = $1350
    32m of 6x 1 1/2 @ 8.75/lm = $280

about 1.44 cube of timber from 2.5 cube of log so about 57.6% recovery if my working is right.

i normally tell people the timber will be less than half the price of buying it when i do a quote.

allan no one has rung me about milling a silky?

its always good to get feedback on why a job was lost but its not often that the chance comes up.
