You can cut up to 7.1m beams with the standard rails if your really sharp. No back & forth either.

Would like to see how that is done .The blade can not clear the log at either end , if you go to the side to flip the blade to vertical you can't move it back . The 6m rail with the 1m extenions i found to abit of flex in the end cutting 6m posts. The 8m track put it straight on and no messing around with four end and it supports the weight of the saw better same set up.

There are pics of how I did it on here somewhere a year ago. You can just wind the tracks up one end to flip the blade then lower it down again into the cut level.

I agree with the idea of 8m solid rails being a better set-up than the 6m rail and 2m extension, but to cut logs bigger than 6m you don't have to have the longer rails or even do what inter is talking about(although I hadn't thought of that - good idea), just set ya log up nicely in the tracks...I've done 7m logs more than once on the model 6 (which is admittedly smaller) but looking at the model 10, (which is the biggest) you need less than 1.75m to still be able to swing the blade and with the standard extensions there is 8.5m of track leaving 6.75m free for log - simple maths of it???

Good effort inter to do the beams with what you had bit of mucking around with the chainsaw to do the cuts that the mill was unable to do. Sigidi 6.75m is still not 7.1.

I have a ms660 or 076 so to rip a small quarter off a log is really not a big deal & you have a nice face to follow. If I'm feeling a bit lazy I will just notch out where it rests on the bearers with a small saw & take it off later when that face gets turned to the top. With long beams you have to take a few skims off each face to take the beam down to finished size otherwise the beam wont have parallel faces.
    regards inter

hey carl if you buy a peterson wpf you can make your own extensions as long as you like very easy as they can sit on the ground and chock them as required i made mine for a few bucks

True it isn't 7.1, but I didn't say it was. I've agreed with Inter saying he can do 7.1, I've said I can and have done 7.0's with the model 6 and feel I can do 6.7 now with the dimensions of the model 10.
