Basswood mouldings?
Dear all,
I am a newbie to this forum and am here to seek some general advice.
I am considering to start imports of mouldings and skirtings made of basswood (aka linden, tilia or lime tree). Range of products so far includes approx. 10 lines - floor and ceiling mouldings, window and door dressings, cornice & scotia, insert and panel mouldings, lining boards clear and jointed and panel boards clear and jointed.
I was just wondering if there might be any interest in these products in Australia at all, given that basswood is not commonly used type of timber for such purposes. Another alternative timber type is pine.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thank you

might be to soft to use for internal trim work,
be hard to compete on price with MDF or FJ pine.

Basswood was brought into Australia a few years ago used for Window blinds and Shutters however poor stability & prone to warping. Did see some Imported Basswood mouldings some time ago and same problem.
Archs / Skirts and mouldings are mainly MDF, Primed Pine, Meranti and Tas Oak so will be difficult to compete with especially if you only have 10 lines and dont have a market to sell to.
Just my thoughts.
