Where to buy timber - large outdoor table
Hi all,
I've decided to build a large outdoor table, 2.4 m x 1.0 m with couple of long benches either side. I'm thinking of using treated pine for its low price and the fact that the table doesn't need to last that long.
Looking at prices at Bunnings, I've estimated the materials to be around $400 for the whole lot.
Is Bunnings the best place to buy this sort of timber?
Is it possible to buy recycled timber cheaper somewhere in Melbourne?
Cheers,
Toni

Hi Toni and welcome to the forums. I'm not in Melbourne so can't suggest places other than Bunnings, but for the convenience, their prices are probably close enough to cheapest to do you. If you chose treated pine, it really should be finished with a coat of paint etc since it is poisonous. If you build it well enough that it doesn't fall apart, tp will last for yonks. You could also build it from untreated pine studs for example and if you paint all the joints prior to assembly it probably will still last for yonks.
Cheers

ive found that tile importers better for prices than bunnings and no bunnings will not match or beat by 10% as they class tile importers as trade price.
they are in oakleigh www.tileimporter.com.au

At the risk that you will end up with more timber than you will need you could have a look at the Great Reject Timber Sale here http://woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=78908. If someone was happy to go halves ina pack with you, you would get enough timber for that amount for 2 tables.

melbourne www show
The Melbourne working with wood show is on in around 4 weeks time. You will be able to get something much better than pine there for around the money you are wishing to spend. I know Mal from Boutique Timber will have plenty of red gum, as will some other suppliers and Cedar works will have red cedar.
Save your cash until then.

Sorry Greg, didn't realise that you go that far down. There you go Toni, Mal and Greg are great to deal with and you only have to buy as much as you need.
