Note - launching an email tonight Chris.

c.pauper (Black Oak) and c.cristata (Belah) don't have a visible medullary ray which is what makes all the others pretty - you would not send these two too Estonia
    Thanks!

Is there a reasonably reliable way to tell if the wood that you are looking at is A. crombiei or A. peuce besides the density? I have a piece of A. peuce that has an air-dry density of 1,240kg/m^3 with a bit of sapwood. It was probably a branch or it was part of the trunk and there was mostly sapwood (much like the L. carronii pictures on your website). That density is pretty low for A peuce.

So, do you like A. xiphophylla as much as A. rhodoxylon? Ever heard of Acacia enervia or Acacia masliniana?

The samples of a.peuce (Waddy wood) and a.crombiei (Purple Gidgee) that I have are very similar in colour/sapwood etc but the a.peuce is visibly closer grained ie: denser. At a pinch, I would say the a.peuce is a darker purple but that might be just my sample
The others are all WA species which I haven't seen. BobL might be able to help you out there. I'd like to get my hands on a piece of the a.xiphophylla (Snake-wood) myself but it's a long way to drag the chainsaw

    Exclamation

Never had anything to do with Black Oak, So hence the ignorance, for which I apologise,

I knew of the reputation of Belah for firewood but was shown a sample that was obviously not Belah.

    Default Purple Gidgee.

Wonderful stuphph. I have some pieces that I am loathe to put to use as they loose colour on exposure to light.

How doe Mulga fare on the density scale? It is Bloody tough to cut wit a saw when seasoned, Can present problems when turning but finishes like glass.

    Hi Atrme,

Acacia aneura looks like it ranges from 1157-1213kg/m^3 when it is dry.

How's your search for Brazilian wood going? What cities are you going to visit?

    G'day Runge,

We are ;living in a beachside town called Atafona, at the mouth of the Praiba River. e nearest city is my Wifes home city of Campos, about 45min Away. It has a population of over 600,000.

Tomorrow we go to Rio to pick up our son and his girlfriend, who will be with us for 3 weeks. After that we go to Sao Palo and Sao Jose dos Campos.

We may be going to the Pantanal next year but that depends on the alignment of the stars etc.

Might get to see some dealers in Sao Palo but we have a fair deal of paperwork and documentation to deal with so the schedule is tight.

I ask because this sort of info. is right up their ally.

All Casuarinas are at least "pretty" in my opinion. Some are prettier than others.

This is not the case with the female population of Estonia. All the Females there are gorgeous, except the ugly ones who are only pretty.
I think it is time you made your way back to Australia Arthur.
.... at least we have some ugly ones back here.

Well, I just stumbled on some information that is an update of this document
