    Default Did I do good?

Just did a small repair job for a mate. Normal price would have been about $100. The value of the repair was much more than the time or difficulty.
When I delivered it, his wife said there were a couple of pieces of wood that she had inherited from her grandfather, who was a cabinetmaker in the 1950s. Had a look & told her I'd happily take them. Then she said there was a bit more wood in a box that I could have if I wanted, as well.

The 'bit more' is in the photo. It's all Aussie cedar, various sizes, mainly short lengths up to 1m, but some 250mm x 50mm and similar. The first couple of pieces were already in my racks when I took the photo. 2 off 2100 x 150 x 38 Aussie cedar.

When I'd loaded it all up, the mate asked how much he owed me for the repair. Told him not to worry.

Great pick up Alex - a case of the gift being a better payment than money and the reward for your own generous attitude.

    You thieving bastard....

It is a wonder you didn't charge them to take their rubbish away too.

Nar, only joking, barter is good if you can get it like that.

I scored a trailer load of timber for helping an old bloke with his computer.

Back up a bit Noddy, barter is good if you can get it like that.

If they had stuff to trade for services, it isn't stealing.

If you can't get your head around it, think of it this way.... Alex just got that pile of timber for $100, was that a fair thing if the people didn't have a use for it?

As I said, I scored a trailer load of timber for helping an old bloke with his computer.
If I had given him a bill for the time I spent at his place it would have cost him about $300. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I disagree, that's not stealing. Alex paid a fair price in exchange. Would be different if he took the timber and still presented his bill, but he didn't.

Noddyland sentiments again, what is the world coming too.

    How is it "like stealing"?

Alex went there to do a job and the customer offered to give him some wood she didn't want. Not stealing: a gift followed by a waiver of payment as thanks. Pretty clear cut to me. Even P.C. Plod would see no problem with that.

No problem to worry about there Alex. The stuff would most probably have finished up on the grass verge anyway sometime in the future.
