classy timbers
Doubt you will get either very readily and what you do get will be veeeery pricey. Try Lazarides Timber Agencies. I think they are now at Lawnton.

Douglas Fir = Oregon - should be available in Brisbane all over the place even Bunnings usually carry various bits of it. Depends what grade you are after. Plenty of construction grade around, but clear less so.
Spruce much harder to come buy - Brisbane locals will have to advise there, but furniture timber suppliers might be the go as well as specialist suppliers that deal with instrument makers - so go ask around at your local music store that sells guitars etc.
These guys sell it online:

Douglas Fir
Modern Douglas Fir is plantation grown from what I've been able to determine. It is nowhere near the qualiyty of the older stuff.

Carson
welcome
Douglas fir and Sitka spruce are two totally different timbers
historically Douglas Fir has been used as a construction timber
while Sitka Spruce is typically used for soundboards in musical instruments, or boat spars
what do you need the wood for?

Hi, I am new to this site and am trying to find out how to put up a message about a Sitka Spruce Boom I no longer need on my yacht in Bundaberg. The boom is made of Sitka spruce in three pieces. The length is 4.5 metres plus, and the diameter is 105 mm. Each cheek is 35mm thick and a half circle section with a central block that may have too many screw holes in it to be useful.
The timber is 45 years old so is well seasoned and would be suitable for musical instruments I suppose.
Any comments?
Cheers, Don
