Floorboards suitable for use with under-floor heating
Hi
I'm in the process of designing / spec'ing a house to be built in the mountains of NSW (cool temperate). One of the items I want to incorporate is underfloor heating (warm water pipes embedded in the concrete slab) and I was wondering if any of you have had experience with this type of installation. I'm specifically interested in suitable types of wood to use as floorboards over this type of heating. The boards would have to be either in direct contact with the concrete slab, or be attached to the slab with some sort of suitable heat transferance material.
Any advice would be useful.
Many thanks
Steve

I have seen this done on This Old House a couple of times. They have put a base onto the concrete floor with pre-cut channels in it. Into this they lay the heating pipes with the floorboards going over the top, being careful not to nail into the pipes.
If it works in that situation then I don't think it would matter what kind of timber flooring you used over a slab with in-built heating as in both cases the heat is transferred through conduction and not radiance.
