Personally I don't see the point in buying a small quantity of green timber and stickering it for two or three years before you use, even if the dollars are small.

Now if you were looking to buy 5-10 cu.m of green wood to store for the future -- that would a whole differeent scenario. Then the savings from buying now less the amount lost through surface checking and warping as it dries would start to look attarctive.

If it were me, I'd be looking at the savings (mostly in petrol and vehicle running) that I'd get by buying already dry, stable boards for what I intend to build over the next 6-9 months.

Hi Ian yes they are very valid points… To me purchasing timber direct from the timber mills and I have taken them on board.
You may have read where I mentioned I had been looking at timber that had been in the mill for some time maybe a number of years.
I had been thinking about going in this direction being aware that there could be problems there in the way of degrade of the timber this was pointed out to me by Bushmillar on the 4th march on this thread here is an extract from that post.

Any timber that has been stored for five years would need to be checked carefully for degrade. Just because they are a commercial mill doesn't mean that they are doing things well. I am surprised they can afford to have material lying around for that length of time. it doesn't sound economic to me.

I can purchase kiln dried timber from this mill….. Extract from post 3rd May

The only timber mill that I found that had kiln dried timber was Relf timber mill at Bulahdelah and that was for unmilled decking, blue gum & black butt in 4x1, & 6x1 @ $3.71 & $5.65 a lineal meter I am not sure if this a good price or not.

So this has also been taken on board as well so….. bit by bit and piece by piece I am building a knowledge base to make balanced descends about buying direct from the mills I am just about to PM Rustynail to get some contact details from him and may buy some timber off him.
As I said the buying of timber this way is all a new journey to me and the fact I can get all this information by talking to all you people I think is the best way to go.
